Nepal : 2013-ongoing

Nepal Water Treatment Plant project  (Jan. 2013)

SWALLOW's co-founder, Kristina Nelson, provided consulting and water treatment designs on INBAR's water treatment plant project in Nepal (funded by Environment Canada). The project delivered the following:

1.Construction of a 5,000 litre capacity water storage tanks using bamboo as the main structural element.

2.Transport water using renewable energy and mechanical pumps.

3.Building a biosand filter to purify stored water.

4.Recycling water using a reed bed filter.

Using these four components it is possible to develop an integrated system for storing, transporting,filtering and recycling water. This has the potential to allow rural communities to improve their water management options, using materials that can primarily be sourced locally and
